Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen were at the scene of a two vehicle crash that left highway brush on fire. The fire was started after two cars collided resulting in one bursting into flames.

The accident happened late Saturday night on a section of highway west of Cancun. Despite the magnitude of the accident, both drivers escaped with nothing more than minor injuries, the SSC (Secretary of Citizen Security) reported.
In a statement they said “No injuries reported in traffic accident at kilometer 293 of the Merida free highway. After the impact, one of the vehicles caught fire.
“The Quintana Roo Secretariat of Citizen Security reports that a traffic accident occurred on the Merida free highway at kilometer 293, resulting from a collision between two private vehicles that left the roadway.
“As a consequence of the impact, one of the vehicles involved caught fire which was promptly extinguished by the Fire Department.
“Preliminary reports indicate no injuries, and since it is a federal highway, the competent authority will be responsible for carrying out the corresponding procedures.

“The Quintana Roo Secretariat of Citizen Security reiterates its call to the public to drive responsibly and respect traffic regulations and not to drive under the influence of alcohol in order to prevent accidents.”
The SSC did not provide a cause for the crash.
