Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A drop in temperatures has begun in north-central Mexico with the arrival of cold air. That cold air is forecast to extend east, reaching the Yucatan Peninsula late Sunday.
With its arrival, Mexico’s National Meteorological Service (SMN) says cold front number 37 and its associated Arctic air mass will create isolated rain in Coahuila, Zacatecas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo with wind gusts of 30 to 50 km/h.

The SMN (Servicio Meteorológico Nacional) said Sunday that the mass of incoming cold air, cold front number 37, will move across eastern and southeastern Mexico as well as the Yucatán Peninsula.
With its arrival, “very heavy isolated rain is expected Puebla and Veracruz, and intense rain to areas of Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas and Tabasco.
“These rains could be accompanied by lightning and possible hail. The Arctic air mass associated with the front will generate a marked drop in temperature in states of the Northern Plateau, Central Plateau, and eastern and southeastern Mexico.
“Additionally, a strong “Norte” wind event will persist with gusts of 90 to 110 km/h in Tamaulipas, Veracruz and the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec.

“Very strong winds with gusts of 60 to 80 km/h are expected in Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, along with high waves along the coasts of these states.
“A high-pressure system in the mid-levels of the atmosphere will settle over western Mexico, maintaining the heat wave in areas of Jalisco, Michoacán, and Guerrero, and beginning in Colima today.”

The National Weather Service says they are continuing to monitor the effects of cold front No. 37 on northeastern, eastern, central and southeastern Mexico.
The new mass of incoming cold weather is forecast to stick around at least four days and will mostly affect nighttime and early morning temperatures.

For Sunday night, State Civil Protection (Coordinación Estatal de Protección Civil Quintana Roo) says local temperatures will remain normal for this time of year with average daytime highs of 32C (89F) and nighttime lows of 19C (66F).
