Tulum, Q.R. — A late night shooting in Tulum has left one person dead. Police were called to the scene in the Aldea Tulum residential neighborhood around midnight.
There, they found the body of an adult man who had been shot several times laying in the street. He was located at the intersection of Ágata Avenue and Perla Street where he was shot and left for dead.
Neighbors who heard the gunfire called police reporting finding a seriously injured victim in the street. However, by the time paramedics arrived, the man had died.
The shooting is believed to be targeted and not a random act. Police have not commented on any leads including suspects, motive or arrests.
The deadly shooting happened hours after Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo announced a new military colonel posted in Tulum.

On Tuesday afternoon, Castañón Trejo said “security is built through genuine coordination and teamwork.”
He made the comment as an introduction to Colonel Pedro Hernández Sánchez, the new Commander of the Mexican Army Command Post in Tulum
“We welcome Colonel Pedro Hernández Sánchez, the new Commander of the Mexican Army Command Post in Tulum.
“When all three levels of government work in alignment, results are achieved: Tulum has been removed from the list of municipalities with the highest priority for high-impact crimes.
“This is no coincidence; it is the product of a clear strategy and ongoing communication between municipal, state, and federal authorities.
“We continue to strengthen this approach with concrete actions and projects like the new C4 center, where all security agencies will converge. My commitment is to maintain this coordination to protect the population and tourism, and to continue moving toward a more peaceful and prosperous Tulum,” he said Tuesday.
