Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Five people were injured in a two vehicle wreck on a Riviera Maya highway Sunday. The accident was reported to emergency services Sunday afternoon near Xpu-Ha in Riviera Maya.
According to initial information, a car traveling a sideroad entered the federal highway, causing it to be struck by oncoming vehicle.

Reports say the driver of the car was leaving a dirt road when they quickly joined the federal highway without noticing the oncoming cargo van.
As the driver left the dirt road, their vehicle was hit by an oncoming Renault cargo van. The car was pushed into highway vegetation, injuring two adults and one minor inside who were reported not wearing seat belts.
The front of the small van was demolished. Two adults traveling in the cab of the van were seriously injured. The driver was reported trapped behind the wheel, requiring the jaws of life to free him.

National Guard Highways directed traffic while five ambulances attended to the injured. All five people were transported to different hospitals in Playa del Carmen.
