Cancun, Q.R. — The city of Cancun has made its tourism debut in Times Square. City officials traveled to New York over the May long weekend to promote the sun and sand destination.

Nearly half a million people will see the Cancun brand on a daily basis after Mayor Ana Paty Peralta’s brought the destination’s iconic letters to New York, one of the most visited destinations in the world.
“Cancun is a destination with heart and soul and in 55 years, it has broken all records. Today, we want to tell the entire world that we are open to you,” said the Mayor at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the street marketing campaign from Times Square.
The CANCUN letters were place in Times Square with support of the Mexican Consul in New York, Joaquín Gerardo Pastrana Uranga, and the Municipal Secretary of Tourism, Juan Pablo de Zulueta Razo.
Ana Paty Peralta stated that Cancun’s promotion is focused on generating more tourists, more visitors and more jobs. As part of this campaign, the destination’s name will be extended to more cities around the world.
“Cancun is Mexico’s most important tourism brand and with our governor, Mara Lezama, we are positioning ourselves in the new era of tourism,” Peralta said.
During the ceremony she also reaffirmed Cancun’s tourism strength with its current air connections to more than 134 cities around the world, and that it maintains 11 daily flights to New York alone, a strong relationship with the American city.

Between 300,000 and 400,000 people pass through Times Square in New York’s busy commercial and entertainment district each day.
