Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Playa del Carmen combi running the Puerto Aventuras route caught fire and burned in its entirety Friday. Police and firemen attended to the 6:30 a.m. scene in Puerto Maya of Puerto Aventuras where they arrived to a fully engulfed passenger van.
The combi was not carrying passengers at the time of the electrical short circuit that is alleged to have started the fire. The driver of the unit was without a fire extinguisher so was unable to do anything more than watch.
Firemen from Puerto Aventuras were first on scene followed by firemen from Playa del Carmen. They were able to douse flames but not before the entire van burned. No one was reported injured.
