Cancun, Q.R. — A new travel report by Airlines Reporting Corporation says that according to travel analysis, Cancun remains the first choice for American travelers for the fourth year in a row.
The company explains that, according to roundtrip air tickets purchased from U.S. travel agencies, including online agencies, to worldwide destinations, Cancun remains the number one choice for US summer travelers.
The company lists the top 10 summer travel destinations for Americans, noting that Cancun took the number one spot followed by New York, Orlando, London and Las Vegas. The report by Airlines Reporting Corporation says that Las Vegas saw an 8 percent increase, the highest in the top 10 list, however, average passenger counts and airfares across the group were virtually flat, down 1.6 percent and 1 percent respectively when compared to the same period in 2018.
ARC Managing Director of Data Science, Chuck Thackston said “When we took a holistic look at the top 10 summer destinations in terms of passenger volume, we saw that the levels stayed steady and strong.”
Los Angeles, who came in at number nine, saw the second highest increase in passengers at 1.5 percent, while the average ticket price to Honolulu, who came in eighth position, decreased the greatest, down 8 percent compared to the previous year. Yet, the average ticket price to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, who ranked sixth, grew by 4.7 percent.
Conversely, passenger volume to Seattle, who took seventh place, dropped 6.4 percent. Thackston explained that “Since the average cost of a ticket also remained effectively unchanged, vacationing in the U.S. and abroad continues to be a great deal.”
