Tabasco man who arrived to start new PDC job drowns off central beach

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Tabasco man was pronounced dead on a central Playa del Carmen beach Saturday afternoon after allegedly swimming while intoxicated. PDC police and medical personnel were called to the beach area of 10th Street around 3:00 p.m. after receiving reports of a drowned man.

They arrived to find two men, both alleged to be intoxicated, on the sand. The surviving male is reported to be the cousin of the now deceased. Witnesses told police that the two men had been drinking and began to argue when one left the argument and went into the water.

He was eventually seen by lifeguards struggling to swim. By the time he was returned to the sand, he was dead. He has been identified only as a 34-year-old worker from Tabasco. Both he and his cousin had arrived in Playa del Carmen only days before to start new jobs.
