State assembles convoy to reclaim invaded Bacalar land

Bacalar, Q.R. — State land at Bacalar has been reclaimed after police completed a search warrant of an estate located on the Reforma – Puerto Juárez highway.

In a statement, La Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) reports that agents of the Policía Municipal de Bacalar were part of the arrest and seizure of land and weapons found on the estate. The land, which has been invaded for a second time, was recovered after an envoy of municipal, state and marine officers participated in what ended up being a hostile takeover of the property.

The invaded land is located along the shores of the Bacalar Lagoon and is a protected area for environmental research and preservation.

For the second time in less than 12 months, a group of around 40 people returned to the land where they had cleared mass areas of vegetation and constructed makeshift homes. The envoy set out at 10:00 a.m. and had the land recovered and an arrest made by noon.

During their search of the property, the FGE reports that police found two shotguns and a rifle. Juan N was taken into custody and handed over to the authorities.

The property remains under the protection of the Municipal Police of Bacalar.
