Santa María del Rio, Mexico — A pedestrian bridge over the Querétaro-San Luis Potosí highway collapsed without warning Thursday morning. Traffic along the highway came to a complete standstill as the metal bridge lay across all eight lanes.
The bridge, which is located in the community in Santa María del Rio, fell and landed on the bed of a passing semi unit, damaging his two trailers. Paramedics and rescue units were sent to the scene. The National Guard reported through social networks that despite the spectacular nature of the accident, no one was injured.
Crews were called in where they spent several hours removing the metal structure. Highway traffic was diverted to an alternate route along the San Felipe-Cerro Gordo-León-Querétaro highway.
