PDC transit officer walks ledge to extinguish electric pole fire

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Several passersby along Fifth Avenue took the opportunity to video a police officer walking out on a ledge to extinguish a fire. The incident was reported by the Solidaridad Seguridad Pública (SSP) who explained that on Monday night, a fire began to burn an electrical pole along 24th Street.

The fire was burning electrical cables in two places high up on the pole near a building. An unnamed Tourist Police Officer climbed out a patio window and along the ledge of the building’s exterior with a fire extinguisher to put it out.

He was met with a resounding applause from those watching from the Fifth Avenue street below as the live flames quickly disappeared. The SSP did not provide any details on the electric fire.

Earlier this month, smoke alarms inside a centrally located Playa del Carmen hotel alerted guests and staff to an electrical fire. Firemen responded to the call for assistance after a CFE power surge on an outside pole caused an electrical short circuit inside the hotel, which set off the alarms.
