Holbox, Q.R. — A new ferry route has been announced, connecting a Yucatan port with Holbox. Tizimín mayor Pedro Couoh Suaste says this new route will connect the Port of El Cuyo in Tizimín, Yucatan, with the island of Holbox in the nearby state of Quintana Roo.
Couoh Suaste said the new route was decided upon after meetings with the mayor of Lázaro Cárdenas, Emir Bellos Tun, the owner of Holbox Express, Ismael Moguel and with businessmen and Isarel Loria, a representative of governor Carlos Joaquín.
He explained that the new route, which is set to begin operating in early 2022, will do so with a boat capacity of 100 to 150 passengers. A vessel similar to the current ferries that operate the Chiquilá to Holbox route will be used.
El Cuyo is a small fishing town in the extreme northeast of Yucatan near the border limits with Quintana Roo. It is located with the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve.
