New director appointed for Cereso of Chetumal after second inmate murdered under the same watch

Chetumal, Q.R. — The director of the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) of Chetumal has been replaced. The man who headed the Centro de Reinserción Social (Cereso) de Chetumal was quietly replaced after a murder that happened nearly two weeks ago inside the facilities.

According to Infoqroo, the former director, Hugo Silva Solórzano, was dismissed and replaced by Luis Uriarte Acosta, who was appointed in his place. The change happened Wednesday, but was not made public until now.

Reports say the change of directors was made after an inmate was killed two weeks ago inside the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) of Chetumal. Due to the ongoing investigation, Acosta was appointed to replace Solórzano. State authorities have not said if Solórzano is somehow believed involved in, or responsible for, that death.

It was the second inmate murder inside the Chetumal facilities this year under the former director.
