Mexico City police block airport access in protest of National Guard transfer

Mexico City, Mexico — Federal Police in Mexico City protested their transfer into the National Guard by blocking the Boulevard Puerto Aéreo roadway of Terminal 1 of the Mexico City International Airport Friday.

The blockade lasted nearly nine hours as approximately 200 federal police officers protested their transfer to the National Guard, causing fear among travelers afraid of missing their flight, as well as long traffic jams for vehicles heading toward the terminal.

Through social media, the airport requested travelers take precautions due to the demonstration in the Interior Circuit-Boulevard Puerto Aéreo toward Terminal 1. There were no injuries or violence reported. There was also no word if the protest would continue for a second day.
