Interjet to compensate all affected passengers

Mexico City, Mexico — Authorities report that Interjet passengers affected by the recent cancellations and delays will be compensated by the airline.

The news comes after representatives of la Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Profeco) and la Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil de la Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT) met with ABC Aerolíneas, SA de CV (INTERJET) after thousands were affected by canceled and/or delayed flights between July 29 and 31.

According to the information reported by Interjet, between July 29 and 31, 133 flights around Mexico were canceled on all routes operated by the company affecting 18,247 passengers. During that time, 22 of their flights were delayed affecting 2,998 passengers. In total, 155 flights and 21,245 passengers were affected.

Interjet says the reason for the cancellations and delays was a lack of crew to operate its flights.

At the meeting, Interjet committed to making adjustments such as hiring 63 pilots and setting up a worktable with the General Directorate of Civil Aviation to review its operational planning process so that in future cancellations and delays, passengers will be sufficiently informed in advance.

They also said they would compensate 100 percent of affected passengers. To do this, the passenger must write an email to indemnizaciones@interjet.com.mx or communicate directly to the Customer Service telephone number of the airline, 11 02 55 11 (from Mexico City) or 01 800 322 5050 (from other states), providing the reservation number of the affected flight.
