Holbox city council notes tourists working without permits

Holbox, Q.R. — The general secretary of the City Council of Lázaro Cárdenas has asked the National Migration Institute (INM) to carry out a document review operation in Holbox, where he says, tourists are found working illegally.

Salvador Vargas Rosas, el secretario general del Ayuntamiento de Lázaro Cárdenas, says he has received several complaints from residents about tourists working in Holbox without the legal permits required to do so.

He says many tourists arrive on the island to visit with some remaining and working without having the corresponding documentation. Vargas Rosas also said that some even spend the night in the beach area which is a serious problem because as a government, the physical integrity of the tourist is a concern.

“The staff of Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM) must go to the northern part of the municipality, because tourists come every day, and it is a concern for the security that still prevails on Holbox Island,” he said.
