Chetumal, Q.R. — A former Chetumal police officer died in hospital Saturday after being shot while driving. The shooting happened Saturday night while the man was driving on Lázaro Cárdenas Avenue.
Preliminary reports say 10 shots were fired at the vehicle, hitting the driver and causing him to crash into a tree. The former officer was taken to hospital where he died. His passenger, his wife, was treated for glass injuries due to the crash.
The now-deceased former policeman has been identified as Sergio N, a former commander of the Ministerial Police. According to initial reports, gunmen on a motorcycle paired up with his vehicle before opening fire.
On social media, the FGE reported “that it has started an investigation into the events that occurred on Av. Lázaro Cárdenas in Chetumal, where a male lost his life, apparently by firearm. The victim, S.D.P.T. was a PDI agent until two years ago when he was discharged.”
