Driver killed trying to pass bus on Felipe Carrillo Puerto highway

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A man was killed near the town of Uh May after crashing into the back of a bus while trying to pass. The highway accident happened around 5:00 p.m. Monday.

First responders found the heavily damaged cargo truck off to the side of the highway with a deceased driver behind the wheel. Ahead was a staff bus transporting a group of local construction workers.

According to early information, the male driver of the cargo truck hit the back of the staff bus, killing him. Four people from the bus were injured. The accident happened when the driver of the truck attempted to pass the bus. The impact caused the rear of the bus to buckle.

National Guard Highway Division were on scene along with police, paramedics and firemen, who were called in to remove the twisted metal from around the deceased driver. The four injured were stabilized on site before being transferred to hospital.

Volunteers from the National Emergency Commission monitored traffic while paramedics transferred the injured and authorities had the vehicles removed.
