Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Hundreds of people gathered over the weekend in two separate peace marches for Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Resident of both cities got together to express concerns and request greater security for the cities they call home.
In Cancun, police participated in the hand-in-hand peace gathering that was held at the Municipal Palace of the Benito Juárez City Council where a human chain was made to show a united front between citizens and authorities. The State police music band also arrived where those demonstrating sang the country’s national anthem.
Cancun residents began arriving at city hall around 10:00 a.m., each bringing a flower to spell out “peace”.
In March, a similar peace march was held by Cancun residents in Tajamar Malecón.
In Playa del Carmen, a similar peace march was held in two different points of the city. One was organized for the parque Lázaro Cárdenas and the second along calle Constituyentes and calle 30 in central Playa del Carmen.
Everyone participating wore white with many chanting “we want peace”. The group made their way to 28 de Julio outside the Municipal Palace where they demanded more security and the return of peace for Playa del Carmen.
