Cancun restaurant security guard gunned down in broad daylight: group claims responsibility

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun restaurant security guard was gunned down over the weekend in the city’s center. Municipal police arrived around 1:30 p.m. Sunday to find the dead watchman inside the premises.

They also found a threat in the form of a handwritten message on a white blanket left behind by those claiming responsibility.

The unidentified 25-year-old security guard was found shot to death at the entrance of the SM 17 restaurant. He had been hit multiple times.

Police responded to the shooting after being notified of a report of shots fired by Emergency 911. Area residents made the report after the seafood restaurant was broken into and the guard shot.

The man was reportedly alive when police arrived but died before paramedics made it to the scene.

Three weeks ago, the owner of a used car lot was gunned down on his property. That lot is in the same area of this latest restaurant shooting.

Since the Sunday shooting, the FGE posted a brief saying “the FGE Quintana Roo reports that it has started the investigation for the events that occurred in SM 17 of the municipality of Benitz Juarez where a person lost his life from gunshots. A blanket with threats between members of rival criminal groups was located.”
