Bacalar, Q.R. — A Bacalar taxi driver was killed Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash. The accident happened along the highway near the entrance to the city of Chetumal.
The cab driver is reported to have veered off the road where he slammed into a tree while avoiding a near-collision with a second vehicle. Responding highway authorities found the badly damaged Bacalar taxi off the road.
The front had been pushed inward from impact against the tree. Behind the airbag-deployed wheel was the dead driver identified as Juan de la Cruz “I”.
The area was cordoned off by police officers while the body was removed and the vehicle towed.
