Cancun, Q.R. — For the second time in as many days, a Cancun pedestrian has been hit by a public combi unit. A driver from a public combi transport company in Cancun is facing charges after being arrested Friday.
The driver was taken into police custody Friday morning after being held by angry residents who saw the hit and attempted run. After hitting the pedestrian, the driver is alleged to have tried to abandon his unit and flee the area, however, he was captured by accident witnesses and held for police.
Witnesses reported the pedestrian accident around 11:00 a.m. in the Cielo Nuevo subdivision where a driver on Route 29 hit a woman crossing the street. She was rushed to hospital. Her condition is unknown.
Realizing the driver was about to flee the scene, witnesses held him. It was the second pedestrian hit on the same route by a driver of the same combi company in as many days.
On Thursday morning, a woman who was crossing the street was hit and dragged by a passing combi unit. She was killed from the impact and pronounced on scene.
Neither of the public transport drivers or accident victims have been publicly identified.
