A dozen rescued from Bacalar lagoon in two boat mishaps

Bacalar, Q.R. — A dozen people had to be returned to land by the Navy of Mexico in two separate incidences after their boats capsized in the Bacalar lagoon.

Personnel from the Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico made both rescue missions on the Bacalar lagoon after a report from a citizen who said that a tour boat and a private sailboat were in trouble and appeared to be sinking.

In a statement, navy personnel said they made a tour of the lagoon where they found both boats. One boat was carrying nine Mexican passengers, while the other had three Brazilians on board.

While there was no word on what caused the capsizing of the tour boat, the sailboat was reported to be performing improper maneuvers when its sailors lost control.

There were no injuries reported.
