Weekend patrols see two central Playa del Carmen bars shut

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two bars in central Playa del Carmen have been closed by authorities. The Solidaridad City Hall Supervision Directorate shut the two clubs after loaded handguns were found on the premises.

City officials proceeded to close both centrally located bars while the Secretariat of Public Security arrested three Saturday. The National Guard assisted in the seizure of the loaded weapons and arrest of three while the city closed the two establishments located in the tourist area of Playa del Carmen.

The weapons were located during a routine surveillance tour by personnel from the Solidaridad City Council Supervision Directorate. They were actually there to verify the clubs were operating within their allowed times when the guns were found.

In 2019, a new law passed that allows authorities to automatically close establishments believed linked to criminal activity.
