Van catches fire at Centro Maya burning two vehicles

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A small cargo van that was parked at the Centro Maya plaza Saturday caught fire, burning another vehicle.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon when witnesses say the van suddenly burst into flames. The owner rushed out in an attempt to isolate it from other nearby vehicles, however, the breaks were not functioning.

A report from municipal authorities said the van was filled with a load of eggs when the fire began. Since the driver was unable to isolate the vehicle, it partially burn an SUV that was parked next to it.

Firemen and members of Civil Protection arrived and immediately cordoned off the area and extinguished the burning van. There were no human injuries reported in the fire, only material damage to the two vehicles.
