Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two municipal police officers were arrested Tuesday on allegations of extortion for the sum of 2,500 peso. The unidentified male and female officers were jailed Tuesday afternoon after being reported by a citizen.
According to the unnamed Playa del Carmen resident, the officers requested 2,500 peso in exchange for not being charged with an administrative offence.
Under the city’s Zero Tolerance policy for police officers, both were arrested. Both officers are reportedly from the Ministry of Public Security and Municipal Traffic division of Playa del Carmen.
The officers were arrested from Flor de Ciruelo Avenue in the Las Palmas neighborhood after the citizen reported that he was the victim of extortion.
