Two Cancun combis collide leaving 15 injured

Cancun, Q.R. — A collision between two collective transport vans in Cancun left one of the combis overturned, 15 injured and a total of four vehicles damaged.

The accident happened at an intersection in Region 95 around 12:30 p.m. Monday when the two vehicles collided, overturning one of the vans.

Four ambulances arrived to tend to the injured from inside the public combis. They reportedly sustained only minor injuries, but were transferred to area hospitals for assessment.

Preliminary reports say that the Transporte Terrestre Estatal (TTE) van was traveling in the side lane but failed to stop once reaching the intersection at Comalcalco Street and collided with an oncoming Maya Caribe van.

The impact caused the TTE van to catch air, landing on it side but not before smashing into the back of a parked car. That impact caused that car to hit the parked car in front. A total of four vehicles were damaged in the mid-day accident.
