Two buses carrying 173 illegal immigrants detected outside Chetumal

Chetumal, Q.R. — Two buses carrying nearly 175 illegal immigrants have been seized by authorities. The seizures took place Tuesday along the Chetumal-Bacalar highway near the southern security arch of Chetumal by the State Rural Police.

The buses were pulled over for exceeding their maximum passenger limit. During the stop, a total of 173 illegal Central Americans were located. The first bus stopped, bus 703, was found transporting 85 passengers. The second bus was carrying 88.

All were illegal and undocumented. All 173 on board were taken to the National Institute of Migration (IMM) office in the state’s capital city of Chetumal for processing.

The two drivers of the buses identified as 24-year-old L.G.C.H and 40-year-old R.J.R., were arrested. The buses had left Chiapas and were headed for the city of Cancun when they were intercepted.
