Tulum., Q.R. — A lifeguard in Tulum was shot in the leg after an altercation with a street vendor selling jewelry on the beach.
The dispute took place on the beach outside Bahía Príncipe around 10:00 a.m. When the pair began to exchange words, the seller of alpaca jewelry pulled out a gun and shot the hotel’s lifeguard in the leg. The bullet hit the man in his right knee.
The vendor immediately fled on foot. Police were called but unable to locate the armed salesman.
Paramedics also arrived to tend to the gunshot wound and transfer the lifeguard to hospital. The victim has been identified as Carlos Manuel N. He was taken to a Playa del Carmen hospital.
