Toluca doctor removed from position after vaccinating family with vaccines reserved for healthcare workers

Toluca, State of Mexico — The Secretary of Health of the State of Mexico says that the director of the Lic. Adolfo López Mateos Medical Center has been separated from his position while under investigation.

The health secretary made the news public after the Toluca doctor was found to have vaccinated his family with Coronavirus vaccines meant for health care personnel.

The state secretary of health explained that Doctor José Rogel Romero was removed from his position as director while the corresponding procedures are carried out. An internal investigation by the Internal Control Body of the Institute of Health of the State of Mexico is underway.

During a morning press conference, President Andrés Manuel López Obrado said officials were investigating the case of the doctor who, through influence, had his family vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

“The research was done and, indeed, yes, a family that did not correspond to the application of the vaccine arrived…they were vaccinated,” said the president.

Zoé Robledo, director of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) remarked that in the first phase of the vaccination plan against COVID-19, only medical personnel who attend the pandemic are to be vaccinated.
