Three modest homes consumed in Playa del Carmen fire

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A total of three homes were destroyed by flames Friday after a fire in El Pedregal. Playa del Carmen firemen did what they could to save the adjoining properties after a grass palapa began to burn.

Area residents of El Pedregal stood by and watched as firemen doused flames from the burning palapa roof. By the time the fire was considered extinguished, two other properties on the same lot were affected.

Occupants of the modest palapa topped homes were able to get out. A total of three huts were completely destroyed. No injuries were reported.

Mayor Lili Campos publicly thanked the fire department for their timely intervention, which prevented the fire from spreading to other nearby homes.
