Thousands of military personnel to arrive in Riviera Maya to begin train construction

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Thousands of military personnel are scheduled to begin arriving in the region toward the end of the month. Military personnel are being sent to Quintana Roo to construct the southern section of the Maya Train.

Elements of the Ministry of National Defense have been earmarked to build the train by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador AMLO since the project began.

Eloy Quintal Jiménez, president of the Cámara Nacional de Comercio Servicios y Turismo de Chetumal, said he has been unofficially told the military camps are scheduled to start construction on March 25.

Quintal says that military camps for the Maya Train builders will be constructed around various parts of the state to house them during their stay.

“Unofficially, we know that as of March 25, army worker camps will begin to be installed in four points of the state to join the work of the Maya Train,” he said.

One of these camps is scheduled for Chetumal and the others in Tulum, Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos. The personnel themselves are scheduled to begin arriving at the beginning of April.
