Cozumel, Q.R. — State port facilities operated by the Administración Portuaria Integral de Quintana Roo (Apiqroo) are in the process of receiving surveillance cameras that will provide more security in the busy areas announced the head of Apiqroo.
Alicia Ricalde, head of Apiqroo said that the installation of 140 video surveillance cameras have begun in various ports around the state with priority being given to Cozumel and Isla Mujeres, who are two of the busiest.
She said that millions of travelers use the Cancun-Isla Mujeres and Playa del Carmen-Cozumel ferry crossing each year, making them the busiest and thus, receiving priority for the video camera installation.
Ricalde said it is important to provide these ports with the greatest level of security with cameras and support of the Federal Police and the Navy. In addition to cameras, the ports will also have x-ray devices for traveler’s luggage as well as additional personnel to ensure secure terminals.
