Cozumel, Q.R. — Another adult sea turtle attempting to return to the sea was rescued after becoming stuck. Personnel from the Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel (FPMC) arrived to find the turtle trapped among rocks.
Staff from the Rastas restaurant near the Punta Sur Ecopark where the turtle was seen also helped in freeing it. Efforts were made to unwedge the large white sea turtle from the sharp rocks where it was found stranded.
Jesús Benavides Andrade, Director of Parque Ecoturístico Punta Sur, reported that “early Monday, workers of Rastas restaurant on the East Coast reported to the staff of the park the discovery of the sea turtle trapped in the rocks.”
Biologist Héctor González Cortés, Deputy Director of Punta Sur, went to assess the health of the turtle and coordinate a rescue team. The sea turtle was quickly freed from the sharp rocks to prevent dehydration due to high temperatures. The turtle was freed without any injuries.
