Police chase and exchange of gunfire gets three jailed in Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — Three people were taken into police custody in Cancun after a pursuit and the exchange of gun fire. The trio were arrested Friday after police learned the vehicle in which they were traveling was stolen.

When requested to pull over, the driver accelerated, for which a police chase ensued. The 5:00 p.m. chase took place along Avenida 20 de Noviembre. The stolen vehicle finally came to a stop in Region 99 after the driver lost control and slammed into a sidewalk.

The trio then got out of the car where one of the men opened fire against police. Police shot back, hitting the male suspect in the leg. The two men and one young woman were then taken into custody. The stolen vehicle along with three firearms were seized from the scene.

The injured man was treated for his leg injury by paramedics before being transferred to the General Hospital of Cancun in custody. The three, 22-year-old Reyna N, 32-year-old Jorge N and 27-year-old Luis N, were arrested on charges of carrying a firearm, concealment and attempted murder.
