Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Local authorities are working on a project to modernize the Playa del Carmen 9-1-1 emergency response system. Carlos Alberto Montesinos García, the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) head of Playa del Carmen says the change will ensure calls made are received and dispatched directly.

Montesinos García said in the near future, all 9-1-1 calls made from the municipality of Playa del Carmen will be received and dispatched directly from a local center. He explained that technical evaluations and administrative procedures are currently underway to implement infrastructure adaptation, technological upgrades and staff training.
The system will operate under national protocols and in ongoing coordination with the C5, but with the advantage of immediate access locally.
He said the direct emergency calls will optimize the use of patrol cars, motorcycles, ambulances and other available units by processing information about each incident in real time.
Montesinos García said this will be especially progressive in high-impact emergencies such as serious accidents, ongoing criminal acts, or urgent medical transfers.
“We not only seek to shorten the distance between the call for help and the arrival of support, but also to strengthen community confidence in their security institutions,” said Montesinos García.
The SSC head mentioned that the modernization for Playa del Carmen is part of a comprehensive plan to strengthen security and citizen services, complemented by the coordination of Civil Protection, Transit and other operational areas.
