The vehicles are reported to have offered transportation services in the Costa Mujeres tourist area.

Initial reports indicate that the seized vehicles may have been used by members of a criminal group who operate from Puerto Juárez to Isla Blanca.

According to early information, police were investigating cases of extortion, kidnappings, drug dealing and homicides. During vehicle verification, agents proceeded to have several of the taxis towed. At least four were labeled as offering platinum transportation services.

The Friday night operation was due to a tip by a recently arrested member of the same criminal group in another city.

The entrance to the property, which served as a parking lot, was cordoned off by FGE agents and remained with restricted access.
