Cancun, Q.R. — Witnesses reported seeing a driver get out of his wrecked vehicle before collapsing and dying. A car accident early Monday morning along the Auto Gas highway left one dead and one injured.
The two vehicles crashed head on early this morning approximately two kilometers from José López Portillo Avenue. Cancun firemen were brought in to free the second driver who was left trapped behind the wheel.
That person was transferred to hospital in serious condition.
Motorists who saw the crash said the driver of one of the involved cars got out of his vehicle and walked a few steps to a grassy area where he collapsed. Paramamedics prononunced him dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported seeing one car crossing the center line and into oncoming traffic which resulted in the fatal head on collision.
After the impact, the driver of the hit car was left trapped inside his vehicle. Firemen used hydraulic equipment to free him for his hospital transfer.
Municipal traffic officers cordoned off the area and directed traffic while forensics removed the body of the deceased driver. Cancun Transit officers did not speculate on a possible cause for the accident or a cause for the sudden death of the male driver.
