Thousands march across Quintana Roo on International Women’s Day

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Thousands of women marched across Quintana Roo Sunday in recognition of International Women’s Day. The women marched along the city streets of Cancun Sunday demanding an end to gender violence.

The Cancun march began at 4:00 p.m. in downtown with similar marches held in central Playa del Carmen and Chetumal.

Approximately 4,000 women marched for International Women’s Day in Quintana Roo March 8, 2026.

Demonstrators walked with signs that read “No means no”, “Girls are not to be touched”, “I am the sister of the girl you will never touch”, among others.

Some protesters displayed banners and signs with the profiles of missing women, as well as the faces and names of alleged rapists and femicide perpetrators.

In Playa del Carmen, the International Women’s Day march started at 6:00 p.m. with hundreds walking along Fifth Avenue. Marchers chanted various slogans such as “Justice postponed, childhoods stolen” and “The oppressive state is a rapist!” among others.

In Chetumal, women expressed frustration, anger and indignation “because of the cynicism and pretense of this self-proclaimed feminist, humanist government, but in reality, we see that there is no real commitment to women.

“There are actions with which they try to make us believe they are working, but when we accompany the victims, we know it is pure pretense,” one marcher said.
