Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun woman died from a single gunshot wound while running toward her apartment building Monday night. Neighbors reported hearing gunfire to police in the parking lot of their residential complex.

Police arrived at the building in the Prado Norte neighborhood around 7:00 p.m. in response to those reports. At the scene they found a woman laying dead between a set of apartment buildings.
Neighbors identified the victim as 33 year old Nancy “N” from Tabasco. She was a resident of one of the apartments in the complex and was reportedly running from the gunfire when she was hit.
Paramedics found she had been shot in the right side of her chest as she ran toward her building on Maninche Street. She is believed to have been a victim of a stray bullet.
According to early information, a man was being chased by two individuals on bicycles who allegedly began shooting at him. During the chase, the man ran passed the building where Nancy “N” was running for cover.
Reports say a stray bullet struck her in the the side of her chest, killing her.

Following the attack, authorities located a man near the site who they arrested. He is the man who claimed he was being chased by two armed individuals.

The intended target, the male arrested at the scene, was not injured. Police cordoned off the area while forensics processed the scene.
