Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen residents in the Forjadores neighborhood took matters into their own hands after catching an alleged thief and hogtying him with his underwear, leaving him for police to deal with.
Residents of the southern neighborhood said they have grown tired of the countless home burglaries going on in and around their area, saying that they wanted to use the latest alleged thief as a lesson to others.
The young man was reportedly caught stealing from a house at 1:00 a.m. Sunday when locals organized a group to corner him and strip him of his pants and underwear which they then used to hogtie him, leaving him in the street for police.
The incident happened at a house along 13 Street South in the city’s west side. Area residents say these robberies not only occur in Colonia Forjadores, but also in Villas del Sol and Colonia Colosio. They commented that as recent as last week, they suffered three or four home-thefts and one small business robbery inside their subdivision.
Residents of the neighborhood have requested a greater police presence. The subject, who was left in the street, was arrested by municipal police.
