Aquila, Michoacan — Hundreds of olive ridley sea turtles have begun arriving on beaches of Aquila in the state of Michoacan. It is an annual event that draws spectators to the Punta Ixtal Turtle Camp.
The sea turtles began arriving Wednesday, covering the entire beach to lay their eggs. Indigenous volunteers of the turtle camp say the mass arrival of the turtles, which has been going on for the past few years, lasts for several days.
Ixtapilla beach, where the turtles arrive, is located at kilometer 180 of the Michoacán coastal highway.
