Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — President of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI) of Playa del Carmen is pushing to have vacation rental properties regulated. Playa del Carmen AMPI President, Jaime González, says regulation is required to level the playing field.
“Vacation rental is a very controversial issue, especially with the payment of taxes and competition with the hotel industry. But it is a reality. These are things that you cannot stop and are here to stay so regulating it must be addressed,” he said.
González is also requesting that vacation rental promoters be registered real estate agents so that they abide by the real estate law that exists in Quintana Roo.
“The real estate agent who is out there without a license is illegal, so we have to promote this a lot. An enrolled agent is a trained agent.
“The person who is promoting the vacation rental or properties in general must be a professional, and for that in Quintana Roo, there is a real estate law so we have to promote that as well as the registration of real estate agents,” he explained.
He reported that in early September, AMPI is hosting the eighth Real Estate Forum in Riviera Maya where over 700 attendees and 46 exhibitors are expected.
