Passenger van slams into concrete beam being transported in Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — At least one person was injured after the driver of a passenger van slammed into a concrete beam being transported on a semi flatbed. The incident happened early Sunday morning on the Federal 307 near Bay Petempich.

The National Defense Secretariat (Sedena)-owned beam was on a semi whose driver was attempting to turn around when the van slammed into its side.

The passenger van suffered extensive damage after becoming partially lodged under the multi-ton beam.

The van was carrying tourists around 6:30 a.m. and heading for the Cancun airport at the time of the accident. The driver of the van and one passenger from inside were reportadly treated for injuries. Both were stablized at the scene before being transported to hospital.

Elements of the National Guard Road Division arrived at the scene to take over while the situation was sorted out. Several tow trucks were called in to deal with the oversized semi flatbed. The driver of the semi was detained for questioning.
