Manzanillo, Colima — Six people were arrested and 4,400 liters of alleged stolen fuel seized from local traffickers. The navy of Mexico reported the arrests took place on Monday when a navy helicopter detected the vessels approximately 332 nautical miles (614.8 kilometers) southwest of the coast of Manzanillo, Colima.
In a press release Wednesday, the Secretary of the Navy said personnel on board the Long Range Ocean Patrol, along with an aircraft, “detected two smaller vessels with three outboard motors transporting fuel drums and three crew members in each.”
They were ruled out as being fishermen “which caused suspicion of carrying out an alleged illegal activity,” the agency said.
Marine Infantry personnel carried out an insertion to inspect both vessels, resulting in the fact that neither crew had the documentation of legal possession of the fuel they were transporting, for which the six crew members were detained.
