Lázaro Cárdenas, Q.R. — Two grass palapas burned in a community park over the weekend from kids playing with firecrackers. Two park palapas in the community of Solferino caught fire from kids igniting the small fireworks inside the shelter.
A group of kids were playing in the palapa when they began to set off “bombitas” or little bombs as they are referred to locally. Sparks from the ignited firecrackers reached the dry grass above and quickly began to smoulder.
Winds helped to fan the smoke into flames which eventually consumed two of the public park palapas. By the time firemen arrived, the grass had already burned. Civil Protection personnel were at the scene to tape off the damaged area.
There was no word on charges.
