Veracruz, Mexico — The National Institute of Migration (INM) has located 137 Africans left abandoned on a bus in the state of Veracruz. On Wednesday, the agency reported locating the bus after a receiving a public complaint.
“Early Tuesday morning, Federal Migration Agents received a phone call reporting the location of a passenger bus on the old Las Choapas-Nanchital highway.
“Upon arrival at the place, it was possible to confirm that 137 foreigners were abandoned on the bus (129 from Egypt and eight from Mauritania) who could not prove their legal stay in Mexican territory,” the INM reported.
Among the 137 people on board were two unaccompanied minors.
The INM (Instituto Nacional de Migración) said that everyone on the bus was wearing a bracelet with their own name, a characteristic used by human trafficking groups.
