Human trafficking leader arrested in Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — A man believed a leader of human trafficking rings in several countries was arrested in Cancun Thursday night along with a woman. Roberto “N” and Yesenia “N” were apprehended on Copán Avenue in SM 15 by FGE personnel.

“After carrying out various investigative work, the State Attorney General (FGE) managed to dismantle an international gang dedicated to human trafficking in Cancun with the capture, in flagrante delicto, of two people including a male considered a leader of a criminal gang that operates in several countries,” the FGE reported in a statement.

The first investigations link those now detained with an international criminal gang dedicated to the sale of drugs and human trafficking. After obtaining data, FGE personnel were able to rescue four women, alleged victims of human trafficking in the form of third-party prostitution.

Of the four women, two were of Colombian nationality, one Mexican and one Venezuelan.

“The women belonging to the criminal gang of which Roberto “N” is a part were forced to provide sexual services and were charged a weekly amount,” they added.
