Ferry passengers watch as four transferred from Cozumel to mainland after chase

Cozumel, Q.R. — Ferry passengers on the Cozumel side watched as authorities escorted four men across to Playa del Carmen. On Sunday, the four young men were arrested after a brief chase through Cozumel streets.

The group, who were driving a car, were noticed driving erratically along Rafael E. Melgar Avenue by Cozumel National Guard elements around 12:40 p.m. When asked to pull over, the driver decided to speed up in an attempt to lose the island officials.

They ended up getting themselves arrested after elements of the National Guard intercepted their Nissan Versa. When stopped and questioned, an officer noticed a gun inside the car. A search revealed a loaded revolver. All four were handcuffed and escorted from the island to the mainland of Playa del Carmen where Municipal Police waited to transfer them for official processing.
