Elderly field worker located after two days in Puerto Morelos jungle

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — An elderly man who was reported missing for two days has been located in the jungle in the municipality of Puerto Morelos.

The man, identified as Gumersindo Espinosa Pesero, was reported missing July 10 from the town of Leona Vicario after his family reported him missing from work. Espinosa Pesero worked in the milpa (cultivated fields) and failed to return.

His family took to searching the area for him, but were unsuccessful and requested assistance from the Directorate of Civil Protection and Firefighters of Puerto Morelos.

The International Rescue Brigade of Cancun began an intense search for the man with a search and rescue team of 13 who began looking for him July 11. They too, were unsuccessful. However, he was located several hours into day two of their search.

He was found deep in the jungle, dehydrated but in overall good health. Mr. Espinosa received medical attention to stabilize and hydrate him before being reunited with his family.
